The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
The National Literacy Trust found:
While other factors such as socio-economic status and gender may have a part to play... book ownership as a predictor of attitudes and abilities is consistently strong. When compared to peers who do have books of their own, children who don’t own books:
enjoy reading less
read fewer books
read less frequently
are less likely to have ever visited a library or bookshop
have more negative attitudes to reading
find it harder to find books that interest them
have lower attainment
Our goal is to raise $6-10 for every child to purchase a book of their own. 100% of your donation goes directly to the kids. We're all volunteers, so there's no salaries here.
Access to books is the largest barrier to academic success and beyond. Economically challenged families not only lack books in their home, but they often live in areas where there are fewer books available in their communities. Scholastic helps us get the books to Humboldt, you help us get the books to every child.
